Excellent Hard Water Stain Removal St. George: 6 Steps

1.

Why I provide hard water stain removal for windows

I’ve been cleaning windows in St. George for nine years and I know hard water stains have a mind of their own. If you live anywhere in Washington county or The Stone Cliff Community, you’ve seen the hard water staining. They don’t care how nice your

home is. They’ll ruin a view quicker than a toddler with sticky hands.
I occasionally get calls from homeowners who ask if I can come to their rescue. I try not to brag, but this is one of the things I’m best at. That is removing hard water stains.

I’m going to explain what works, what doesn’t, and why hiring me saves you from scratching your windows with that “miracle” cleaner your neighbor swore by.

While I’m working a miracle on your windows you’ll have time and the peace of mind to enjoy activities like visiting the St. George Children’s Museum, or the Red Hills Desert Garden.

2.

Why Are Vinegar, Steel Wool, and (Plastic) Razor Blades Called The Dream Team?

Hard water stains in St. George hit harder than most places. Our water has a lot of minerals (mostly calcium which is part of the reason it tastes so bad straight from the faucet) that cling to glass. When the sun bakes on the calcium, it turns into a hard, crusty mess that normal window cleaning products can’t touch.

I use a mix of vinegar, steel wool, and plastic razor blades (Plastic razor blades are safe to use on windows). Not to worry if that sounds scary. Each has a job. Vinegar breaks down the minerals. Steel wool buffs the surface. Razor blades shave off the stubborn stuff. I even have plastic razor blades. Plastic razor blades sound odd, but they are very safe for glass. All of this used wrong will scratch your windows so I don’t recommend trying it on your own.

Most homes in the St. George area, including those in Entrada and Washington City, get stains from sprinklers.

I charge about $55 an hour for stain removal. After I’ve fixed a window that looks like it survived a sandstorm, you’ll realize my worth.

3.

What Happens After I Clean a Window That’s Been Through a Sprinkler Apocalypse?

Hard water stains show up when I am doing a regular window cleaning.

Once I fix the stains, the rest of the glass needs to be just as clean. I clean inside (if requested) and out, wipe the frames, and make the windows look like they’re not even there. (Sorry birds)

I’ve cleaned tens of thousands of windows in this town (It’s not a wonder I’m so tired!). I’ve seen everything from sprinkler damage to mystery smudges that I still can’t explain (I’m still thinking toddler!). Then I fix them all.

4.

What’s the Real Reason Your Exterior Windows Always Look Tired?

The outside of your windows takes the worst beating. Sun, dust, sprinklers, and whatever blew in from the Arizona border are attracted to your windows. I get rid of the window grime.

If you live near a golf course, you get bonus dust. If you live near a construction site, you get concrete specks. There’s always something that seems to land on your windows.

5.

Could Your St. George Window Screens Be the Reason Your Windows Never Stay Clean?

Screens hold dust and hard water stains you don’t realize are there. When they’re dirty, they blow grime back onto your clean windows. I wash them so they don’t undo all the work I just did.

A clean screen can also let more light in. It’s a small thing, but it makes a big difference.

6.

How Do I Keep Windows Clear in an Environment Determined to Ruin Them?

I’ve lived and worked in St. George long enough (since 1999) to know how this area treats windows (like the “black sheep” of the house). Between the heat, the sprinklers, and the dust, your glass doesn’t stand a chance without regular care. I help homeowners all over St. George, Washington, Entrada, and Stone Cliff. I keep their windows clear so they can actually enjoy their views.

If your windows have hard water stains that won’t budge, reach out. I’m around, and I’m happy to help get your windows looking clean again.

Removing mineral deposits on windows- I’m losing my mind

We have a large atrium with 8′ windows that, despite regular cleaning, have collected quite a goodly amount of mineral deposits. I’ve tried to clean it off myself (window cleaners, vinegar, vinegar/dawn/lemon juice, applying things and then putting wet newspaper on top so that they don’t dry out too quickly, straight up elbow grease, etc etc). I’ve also asked pros, who look at it and go “uh, no. How is it possible this much happened in only a year?”

Answer: I have had good success with using barkeepers friend

Answer: I’ll second this. My old ceramic crock pot would get white mineral deposits on it after a while, and Barkeepers Friend liquid worked fantastically on it. And it also does a great job on cleaning metal sinks as well of any deposits.

How remove stubborn hard water? Windex doesn’t work. Someone once suggested oven cleaner.

Answer: For maintenance, I did a 50/50 mix of blue dawn dish soap and white vinegar in a spray bottle. Spray it on let it sit for a few minutes then wipe off with sponge. It’s a thicker solution so it sticks. Mr clean eraser helps too. Good luck!

Pro tip for anyone who’s struggling with hard water, crazy haze/ oxidation.

Product: One Restore from Window Cleaners Resource

Answer: This stuff works wonders. Like serious magic. If you’re ROing a house and the windows are the dirtiest you’ve ever seen, get a pole with a brush and use this and it takes everything off. 8-10oz for 3 gallons of water is what I use. Can put it directly on a microfiber and literally wipe away tough hard water spots. I’ve never used anything like it. And I love it.

Response: Mediocritys_finest It can eat the paint on the frames, try not to get it on anything but the glass
